David Edelstein, on Captain America: “I like the new Captain America or, as it’s officially titled, Captain America: The First Avenger, which is meant to remind us the Captain will be an ally of Iron Man, the Hulk, and Thor in the upcoming Marvel Comics epic The Avengers. No, it’s not destined to be a classic: Material so pulpy just isn’t worth doing at these prices. But the movie has an easy, classical pace and a lot of good, old-fashioned craftsmanship.”

That sounds just fine to me. Because Good old-fashioned craftsmanship is what’s missing from the movies. Because sometimes all I want is a movie that’s a friggin movie! in the good old-fashioned craftsmanship sense of the word.

Super 8 was a movie! Stuff like Transformers is culture pollution.

Well that’s heartening. I got a pair of free tickets to go see Captain America and I was getting worried about the lackluster reviews. Hopefully it’s worth sitting through, at least.

Edit: I just double checked Rotten Tomatoes and the rating has gone from 50ish% last week to mid 70s.  That’s a much more acceptable number.

When are you guys (meaning you Warsh) gonna quit giving two craps what reviewers think? Just go check a movie out for what it’s worth!!!!

And how can it be bad? It uses a Tool song!
